THE LONDON TEXTILE FAIR will showcase pre –Pre collection Autumn/Winter 2014 & Spring/Summer highlights

With over 250 exhibitors, The Fair continues to expand with each event and is now a major influence on the UK fashion scene.

The Fair attracts a wide range of textile mills , accessories/trim suppliers, and a large print design studio area . Exhibitors are mainly from Europe, including companies from the UK, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal as well as some high-end manufacturers from Turkey.

Last year we introduced our first Print Design Studio area which was a great success.

Career in Textile Designing

Textile Design forms the core of the whole business of fashion. The rapidly expanding activities in the export and domestic sectors of the Indian apparel and home fashion industry demands professional inputs in design and development of textiles and raw material, which is responsible for 60-80% of the cost of the product. Textile design today is that strategic value adding activity that can make all the difference in transforming a fashion business into an economically viable and profitable proposition.
The Textile Design specialisation offered by Department of Fashion & Textiles equips students with broad-spectrum education in textiles while developing creativity, originality and design application in apparel and home fashion industries.


Year 1
Common Foundation Programme in Design

Year 2
Students will be introduced to textile technology namely, weaving, printing, embroidery and dyeing. It will also lay emphasis on fundamentals of graphic software and its usage for image creation. Field visits and internship with textile mills, printing units and other processing houses will be an important part of the curriculum.

Year 3
The second year will strengthen the knowledge base of students, imparting design, technical marketing and communication skills. Areas of study are Dyeing, Printing & Finishing, Quality Analysis & Assurance, CAD & Weave Design, Print Design and Marketing & Merchandising. The students will also undertake a Craft Survey and Documentation to be exposed to a craft environment.

Year 4
Students will undertake a number of elective subjects to fine tune their understanding of the industry and also an independent research based project. In the final semester, students will undertake a Graduation Project with an industrial client, export house, designer or a NGO. During this period the students will be required to work on the brief given by the sponsor. The programme will culminate into a Graduate show.

The programme prepares students for a wide range of careers in textile mills and export houses, with fashion designers, design studios, mills, buying houses, handloom cooperatives and buying agencies as Design or Fabric Managers, or work independently as Designers or Entrepreneurs.

Within 14 years of existense in the Russian market Heimtextil Russia has established its own culture and taste for home textiles, interior decoration and design; and has gained the status of a must-attend event among Russian professionals.
In 2012 Heimtextil Russia once more proved its position of the most important B2B event with about 15 000 visitors which attended the fair to find the suppliers, to make new contacts and develop the business. In 2012 284 exhibitors from 20 countries have chosen Heimtextil Russia as a platform to display their products and demonstrate them to the attendees.
Heimtextil Russia continues to develop the creative constituent of its brand and in 2012 several design ideas were presented within the framework of the diverse exhibition programme:
  • «Wallpaper bar» - exposition of wall coverings and wallpaper provided the most creative players in the industry;
  • «Pattern Avenue» - the Trend show concept area, organized in collaboration with ELLE Decoration magazine, International Design School and Philips company;
  • Special Events Programme – presentations and workshops of European and Russian designers.

Apart from being a source of inspiration, Heimtextil Russia 2012 provided vast business opportunities for both exhibitors and visitors. This year Messe Frankfurt RUS has launched a special interactive Online Partner Platform, aimed at assisting our participants in establishing direct business contacts with buyers from all over Russia and CIS countries.
Messe Frankfurt RUS expanded the scope of Heimtextil Russia and in 2012 it was held concurrently with Domotex Russia and R+T Russia. These parallel events highly benefited the visitors of the three exhibitions and increased the number of interior designers, building contractors and representatives of the hospitality industry.

CMAI's Fashion Retail Summit

CMAI's Fashion Retail Summit
As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations, the Association is organising "CMAI's Fashion Retail Summit" on Wednesday, 8th May, 2013 at 9:30 AM at The Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

This Summit is an effort to showcase the opportunity in Indian Fashion Retail with a 360° perspective of all the Key Elements in the Value Chain. The Theme for the Summit is appropriately titled "Envisioning the Robust Growth of Fashion Retail in India from USD 40 Billion to USD 125 Billion by 2020".

The Summit will have Participation of the Industry Leaders, National and International Brands and Retailers, Senior Representatives from Global Fashion Houses and other relevant experts to deliberate on Fashion Retail in India, its Opportunities and Challenges and Developing a Road Map for Growth.

Participation in the Summit is by Invitation only.
57th National Garment Fair
The 57th National Garment Fair, organised by CMAI, will be held between 1st July 2013 and 3rd July 2013 at Bombay Exhibition Centre, NSE Complex, Goregaon (East), Mumbai 400 063.

We are glad to inform you that the Association has received an "Overwhelming Response" from Members for Participation. So far, the Association has received Applications for Participation from over 480 Brands from all over India

The Fair Sub-Committee of the Association has decided to Close the Booking for Participation on Friday, 10th May, 2013.

Members who have not yet sent their Application Form for Participation are once again requested to send their Participation before 10th May, 2013 so as to avoid any last minute disappointment.

The Draw of Lot for Allotment of Stalls is proposed to be held on Friday, 31st May 2013 in Mumbai. The Exact Venue & Time will be intimated to the Exhibitors by the Association.
51st India International Garment Fair
The 51st India International Garment Fair - Spring / Summer 2014, organised by International Garment Fair Association (IGFA) , will be held between 15th & 17th July 2013 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The Association has so far forwarded 97 Applications admeasuring 2346 Sq mtrs Area to IGFA, New Delhi.

Seminar on Local Body Tax ( LBT )
The Western Regional Committee of the Association organised a Seminar on 12th March 2013 at Hotel Basera, Pune on Local Body Tax ( LBT ) for the benefit of Western Regional Members of the Association. 80 Members Participated in the Seminar.

Mr Amit Shah, Chartered Accountant, who was the Guest Speaker, informed the Members of the Local Body Tax, its Implications, Registration process etc. He further clarified that this Tax is liable only for the Dealers who Sell or Purchase Goods of R5,000/- outside the City Limit or the Monthly Sale or Purchase Transaction is of R1.00 Lakh. He also stated that the LBT is payable by 10th of every Month and is a Self-Assessment Tax and one can file the Return every Six Months or Yearly.
